Since that time we have spent approximately <br />$3,000.00 on streets, sevrerage, grading and graveling the streets which was <br />approved by your Planning Commission. There have been erected on these 6 <br />lots approximately $75,000.00 in taxable values and the City has collected <br />over $600.00 in water taps, building permits, electrical connections, and <br />sewerage taps without one penny of outlay to the City and as taxpayers of <br />the town we respectful~ request that the above petition be given your <br />consideration. We understand that the approximate cost of this surfacing <br />would not exceed $700.00 <br /> <br />After receiving through City 1funager Mathewson an outline of the Civil Defense Alert <br /> <br />Exercise scheduled June JJr, 195Lf, Council received and placed on first reading the <br /> <br />following proposed ordinance, as recommended and prepared by ,City Attorney Stone, <br /> <br />wi th reference to drunkenness in public: <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED, by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, at <br />a regular and duly called meeting of said Council, that Title VIII, Chapter I, <br />Sec tion 2., of the Martinsvi lIe Ci"o/ Code entitled r'Wrongs and Offenses <br />Generally" be amended to read as follows: <br />Section 2. Drunkenness in Public. Any person who shall get or be drunk <br />in public shall be deemed guilty of a mis demeanor and, upon conviction, shall <br />be fined not less than $1 nor more than $10; provided however, that if any <br />person shall be convicted of being drunk in public three times within one year <br />in the City of Martinsville, upon the third or any subsequent conviction for <br />such offense vrithin the period of one year, such person shall be punished by <br />imprisonment in jail for not more than six months, or by a fine not in excess <br />of $25, or by both such fine and imprisornnent. <br /> <br />Council was ,adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />of Council <br />
