Martinsville was the first city in the State <br /> <br />to recognize the value of radar to control speed on our streets. <br /> <br />The State of Virginia is now adopting this devi.ce. <br /> <br />Our building, plumbing and electrical inspectors are constantly <br /> <br />seeking to safeguard our lives and property. Our codes <br /> <br />rcpres ent the best and most modern thinking in these fields. <br /> <br />The spirit, training and equipment of our regular and volunteer <br /> <br />fire forces are a source of pride and confidence enjoyed by all <br /> <br />our citizens. The Volunteer Company at this time is con- <br /> <br />templating the purchase with their own funds of a three-way <br /> <br />radio system so that Fire Department personnel and equipment <br /> <br />may function in the most efficient manner possible to protect <br /> <br />life and property. Martinsville's fire prevention program has <br /> <br />consistently received national recognition. Our Civil Defense <br /> <br />program is being actively developed. <br /> <br />Weare fortunate in having a good safety record on our streets. <br /> <br />The Traffic and Planning Office is constantly seeking improved <br /> <br />means for safeguarding our adults and children. Every effort <br /> <br />possible should be exerted to this end. The Schools are <br /> <br />assisting in making our community safer and morally more <br /> <br />sound through their driver training and youth forum programs. <br /> <br />- 7 - <br /> <br />I <br />
