18

TUESDAY

JANUARY 12. 1924

Also, in accordance with duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted

a Public Hearing on a propos~l and recommendation, as submitted by the

Planning Commission December 22, 1953, to close and abandon Slpine and Spruce

Streets in the vicinity of the intersection of Lavinder street 1fith the new

Route 220 Thoroughfare and to close and abandon that portion of said Lavinder

street south of said Route 220 Thoroughfare lying along the front of lots

60, 61, 62, and 63. There being no objections registered by any person to

-

this proposal, Council placed on first readlllg a resolution which would carry

out the Commission's recommendation.

In accepting the following report and recommendation of the City's Planning

Comrnission, dated January 11, 1954, Council ordered a Public Hearing to be

held on same, after being duly-advertised, at the regular meeting of the Council

~-
~~
i

to be held February 9, 1954:

The Council at its meeting on December 22, 1953 referred to this
Commission a petition from the fu~erican Furniture Company for its
consideration.

The Planning Commission at a call meeting Wednesday, December 30,
1953, voted un.e"limously to IIlc'l.ke the fol1m.J'"i.Jlg recommendation to
the City Council:

,-

That a section of Hairston street from a point 150 feet
west of Starling Avenue to the dead end of same be
officially abandoned insof"r as the Cit;yr of Hartinsville
hE.s any interests therein.

In making the above recommendation, the Planning Commission wishes
to cite the following considerations.

1. The City Council by ordinance previously closed this
portion of Hairston Street to public use insofar as traffic
was concerned.

2. In overall planning, the Commission feels that this
street is no longer a logical through street for traffic in
view of the fact th2t it n01-1 dead ends at the Norfolk and
\-lest~rn Fai1road, and an extension of smne is impractical, if
not impossible.

The Planning Commission respectfully submits its recommendation to
City Council for its further consideration.
