<br />1 <br /> <br />TUES DAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER D, 1953 <br /> <br />On a "'foree account" basis, and upon recommendation by City Manager Mathewson, <br /> <br />Council awarded a contract to Jennings Electrical Construction Company, Roanoke, <br /> <br />Virginia, for the construction of a new ''East'' electric sub-station and for the <br /> <br />construction of a certain transmission line leading to said new sub-station, the <br /> <br />cost of which (both) was estimated to be approximately $7,000. <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />Upon motion duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted and approved <br /> <br />for 1~yor Hodnett's siGnature the following resolution, approving a mutual agree- <br /> <br />ment (civil defense) vvith the Commonwealth of Virginia: <br /> <br />VfrlEflliAS, the existing possibility of the occurrence of disasters from <br />enclI\)' attack or natural causes, it appears advisable that this city enter <br />into a Mutual Aid At:;reemant with the Commonwealth of Virginia; therefore, <br />be it <br /> <br />~~ <br />i~ <br />i <br /> <br />?~SOLVED, that this ooQy in session October 13, 1953 authorizes ~~. <br />Rieves S. Hodnett, Mayor, to sign the agreement hereto attached; <br /> <br />RESOLVED, further that this resoDltion be spread on the minutes of <br />this meeting. <br /> <br />A request from Dr. L. A. Lackey to rezone a certain lot on Oakdale Street between <br /> <br />the Gravely and Andes properties, said lot to be used for a residential-type office <br /> <br />building, was referred to the Planning Commission for its consideration and <br /> <br />recomr.Jenda tion. <br /> <br />A by-pass or Route 220 Thoroughfare (quit claim) deed, to 1~. J. Clarence Hodges, <br /> <br />was a ppr oved fo r City Manager Ha thew so n 's signature. <br /> <br />Under date of October 8, 1953 1,~. R. L. Maury, former Director of Public Works <br /> <br />for the City, submitted his resignation as a member and as Secretary of the City's <br /> <br />Planning Commission. In accepting this resignation wi th regret, the Council expressed <br /> <br />its appreciation to 1r~. Maury for his valuable and faithful services rendered while <br /> <br />a member of the Commission. <br />
