S. Slaydon, III, and other property owners residing <br /> <br />on River Hill Road who expressed their opposition to any rezoning at the present time <br /> <br />and, particularly, to the proposed rezoning of the entire area in question. Council <br /> <br />took no action on this matter other than to indicate that it would give it further <br /> <br />consideration. <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />No action was taken, either, on the proposed construction of a new North Martinsville <br /> <br />Elementary School, pending additional data to be submitted by the City School Board. <br /> <br />Attorney John Hartley appeared before Council on behalf of the local taxi-cab owners <br /> <br />and operators and submitted a request that Council amend the local taxi-cab ordinance <br /> <br />~~ <br />i~ <br />i <br /> <br />insofar as rates are concerned by allowing the cab owners to charge thirty-five (35'#) <br /> <br />for the first mile instead of the present thirty-five (35t) for the first mile and <br /> <br />one-third. In accordance with Council's suggestion, Mr'. Hartley agreed to present <br /> <br />other information relative to how much additional cost (both in dollars and cents <br /> <br />and percentage-wise) such an increase would represent to the riding public. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved an easement <br /> <br />agreement with the V. M. Draper Manufacturing Company and the Norfolk & Western <br /> <br />Railway Company whereby and under certain conditions as set forth in said agreement <br /> <br />the Norfolk & Western Railway Company will be permitted to lay a temporary railroad <br /> <br />track structure on the Draper property during and in connection with the construction <br /> <br />of the new Route 220 Thoroughfare. Council, also, authorized City Manager Mathewson <br /> <br />to execute said agreement on behalf of the City of Martinsville. <br /> <br />A curb-and-gutter petition presented by property owners and residents of the portion <br /> <br />of Hundley Street which does not now have curb-and-gutter was received and referred <br /> <br />to City Manager Mathewson. <br />
