<br />14 <br /> <br />TUES DAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 8, 1953 <br /> <br />/'--.- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chaniber, <br /> <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, September 8, 1953, at 7:30 o'clock P.M., the following <br /> <br />menibers being present: Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett, and Councilmen C. P. <br /> <br />Craig, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. Councilman D. H. Goode was absent. <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Council meeting held August 25, 1953, upon being read, were <br /> <br />/- <br /> <br />approved. <br /> <br />Before beginning its regular order of business, Council recognized Mr. Garrett Wells <br /> <br />who renewed his request of August 25, 1953 for permission to connect to a water <br /> <br />main served by the City outside the corporate limits; however, inasmuch as such a <br /> <br />~- <br />.a <br />i~ <br />i <br /> <br />connection, if allowed, would constitute a violation of the City's present policy <br /> <br />governing outside connections, Council denied Mr. Wells I request. <br /> <br />In response to a recent inquir,y of Council, Mr. Fred Forberg, Director of Appraisals <br /> <br />and Mapping for the State Department of Taxation, advised Council that he would be <br /> <br />glad to meet with Council at arw time after September 20, 1953 to discuss details <br /> <br />of the forthcoming quadrennial reassessment program. Council, thereupon, scheduled <br /> <br />"'.,- <br /> <br />the afternoon of Septeniber 22, 1953 to meet with Mr. Forberg. <br /> <br />No action was taken by Council on its proposed license tax study, pending additional <br /> <br />information City Manager Mathewson expects to present in the near future. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted the following <br /> <br />ordinance, with emergency clause attached, regulating the outside storage of <br /> <br />abandoned ice-boxes and refrigerators: <br />
