..
4

TUESDA Y

MARCH 10. 1953

...-.
"

The Martinsville Planning Commission, at its meeting of
February 26, 1953, unanimously agreed to recommEnd to the
City Council that the number of members of the Commission
be increased from five to seven. We make this recommendation
with the following thoughts in mind:

.,-

During the past few years the Commission has had to consider
matters which, we feel, are of such importanee that a wider
scope of thought is needed, and at the same time a wider
representation of conmnmity interests. Also, we wish to
point out that the members of the Commission all have
individual and personal business interests which require,
of eourse, the majority of their time. For this reason it is
diffieul t to transact the busine ss at hand with only a three
man quorum. We believe that a seven member body would be able
to fmetion more smoothly since there will, at all times, be
at least four members on hand whenever deeisions are made.

m~
~~
~i!
i

For the herein stated reasons we respeetfully recommend that
Ci ty Council consider the appointment of two more members to
the Martinsville Planning Commission. Should the City Couneil
require more diseussion of this with the Commission, we will
be glad to meet in a joint meeting at Couneil's eonvenience to
discuss the matter f'urther.

No action, however, was taken by Council upon this recommendation and request

pending a study of legal techniealities involved by City Attorney Stone.

In diseussing the proposed bond ordinanees (for utility system improvements)

plaeed on first reading February 10, 1953, Council unanimously a~r,reed to hold

,-

a speeial meeting for aetion on same on Tuesday, March 17, 1953, in the Couneil

Chamber, City Hall, at 7:30 P.M.

By appropriate resolution Couneil offered its sympathy and eondolences to
immediate members of the family of the late D. J. Holland, who faithfully and

efficiently served as a member of the City Council and of its committees for

,-

a number of years.

Coune il wa s adj ourned .

~\"~ ~"-I .

W. H.~, Clerk of Couneil
