<br />6 <br /> <br />TUESDA Y <br /> <br />MARCH 10. 1953 <br /> <br />A proposed and complete Fire Coo.e, as prepared by a special committee <br />headed by Fire Marshal Clay A. Easterly and approved by City Manager <br /> <br />Mathewson, was presented to the Council. No action was taken by the <br /> <br />Council other than to acknowledge receipt of said proposed Fire Coo.e and <br /> <br />to take same under study. <br /> <br />Upon being informed by Mr. Brooks Leavitt, right-of-\-tay agent for the <br /> <br />City of Martinsville, Commonwealth of Virginia, and the Federal Government <br /> <br />for the proposed Route 220 Thoroughfare, that he had been unable to obtain, <br /> <br />within the limits of his authority, options from one Esther Gay Doss <br />(Maryland Street) and one George Millner (or George Millner Estate - Sellers <br />street) for the purchase of certain properties owned by these tw parties and <br /> <br />needed for the said Route 220 Thoroughfare right-of-way, Council unanimously <br /> <br />adopted the following resolution authorizing City Attorney Stone to bring <br /> <br />condemnation proceedings against these tw parties for the acquisition of the <br /> <br />property required: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Brooks R. Leavitt, duly appointed agent for the City of <br />Martinsville, Commonwealth of Virginia, and the Federal Government, <br />in the ma. tter of obtaining purchase options for propertie s required <br />for the proposed Route 220 Thoroughfare right-of -vay, has officially <br />reported that he has exhausted all means wi thin the limitations of <br />his authority, without sucoess, towards acquiring certain properties <br />from one Esther Gay Doss and from one George Millner needed for <br />said Route 220 Thoroughfare right-of-way; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, on behalf <br />of the governments hereinabove mentioned, in regular meeting assembled <br />this tenth day of March, 1953, that it doth hereby appoint William <br />F. Stone as its attorney in this matter and doth herein authorize <br />said William F. Stone to bring and conduct condemnation proceedings <br />to acquire in the name of and on behalf of the City of Martinsville <br />said certain properties from said Esther Gay Doss and said George <br />Millner for the purpose hereinbefore stated. <br /> <br />Under date of MarCh 10, 1953 the Planning Commission submitted for Council's <br /> <br />consideration the following recommendation, viz., to increase the membership <br /> <br />of the Commission from five members to seven members: <br />
