<br />;8 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUAHY 27, 1953 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor H. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br /> <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, January 27, 1953, at 7:30 o'clock P.M., all members, as <br /> <br />follows, being present: Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett, and Councilmen <br /> <br /> <br />C. P. Craig, D. H. Goode, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />Continuing the Public Hearing on the matter of rezoning a portion of Cleveland <br />Avenue (from Starling street to Mulberry Street Extended), which Public Hearing <br />was initially called for the meeting of January 13, 1953, Council heard from Mr. <br />W. R. Broaddus, Jr., Attorney for Dr. John W. Clark, petitioner, and from :Mr. <br />M. H. MacBryde, Jr., Attorney for Mr. S. A. Hooker. After some discussion, <br />Council agreed to co:nsider the proposed rezoning further at a joint meeting with <br /> <br />the Planning Commission on Friday, January 30, 1953, at 1:30 P.M. '--- <br /> <br />Through Attorney M. H. MacBryde, Jr., Council received from Mr. J. C. Stone and <br /> <br /> <br />Mrs. E. H. Stone a petition to rezone from "A-2 Hesidential" to "B-1 Business" <br /> <br /> <br />their property lying off Fayette Street between First and Second Streets, am. <br />bounded on the South by liB" Street. Council referred this petition to the <br />Planning Commission for its consideration and recommendation. <br /> <br />Council next received through Attorney John Epperley, counsel for Chatham Heights <br /> <br /> <br />Baptist Church in the matter of abandoning and opening certain street(s) near and <br /> <br /> <br />adjacent to the Chatham Heights Baptist Church property, a report from the special <br /> <br /> <br />Board of Viewers appointed by Council at its meeting of January 13, 1953, which <br /> <br /> <br />report was as fo11ovfs, and, also, an agreement signed by abutting property owners, <br /> <br /> <br />which follows: <br />
