S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, January 13, 1953 at 7:30 P.M., all members, as follows, <br /> <br />being present: Hayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett and Councilmen C. P. Craig, <br /> <br />D. H. Goode, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />Hinutes of the regular Council meeting held December 23, 1952, upon being read, <br /> <br />Vlere approved. <br /> <br />k <br /> <br />In accordance ~dth duly-advertised Public Notice, a Public Hearing Vlas declared <br /> <br />and held by the Council on the question of rezoning certain property lying on <br /> <br />the East side of Cleveland Avenue between Starling Street and Mulberry Street <br /> <br />Kxtended. Some objections being registered by Mr. S. A. Hooker through his <br /> <br />Attorney, Hr. H. H. HacBryde, Jr., and by Mr. Thomas H. Eorris of Hulberry Street <br /> <br />Extended, the Council took no definite action in this matter other than to place <br /> <br />sa~e on first reading and continue the Hearing at its forthcoming January 27th <br /> <br />meeting. ~- <br /> <br />Mr. John Epperly, Attorney for Chatham Heights Baptist Church, appeared before the <br /> <br />COlmcil and presented the following resolution which the Council unanimously <br /> <br />adopted a~d authorized Mayor Hodnett to execute, which resolution provided for the <br /> <br />appointing of a Board of Viewers for the purpose set forth in said resolution: <br /> <br />~1E3EAS, the Trustees of the Chatham Heights Baptist Church did cause <br />a p8tition to be filed with the Council of the City of Martinsville <br />asking that a certain st:~eet therein more particularly described be <br />aba..'1doned, Vlhich street passes between Lots #5 and #6 as s...1.own on map <br />of the property designated as Chatha.."ll Heights, in the City of Hartinsville, <br />lying on the Northerly side of Route #57 ru1U1ing from Hartinsville, <br />Virginia, to Chatham, Virginia, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the said Chatham Heights Baptist Church is desirous of closing <br />said street and dedicating unto the City of Martinsville two fifty foot <br />streets in the place and stead thereof, all of which will more particularly <br />
