:4 WESDAY NOVn1BER 11. 1952 The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, on Tuesday, November 11, 1952, at 7:30 P.M., all members, as follows, being present: Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett, and Councilmen C. P. Craig, D. H. Goode, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. Minutes of the regular Council meeting held October 28, 1952, upon being read, were approved. Council, noting the presence of visitors, deferred the regular order of business to hear such visitors, whose spokesman was }Ir. Curtis Bouldin, who appeared before Council in connection with the proposed 1952-53 Curb-and-Gutter construction program to be considered by Council in meeting of this date. These visitors -- and residents of that part of Chalmers Street beyond Cliff Street __ requested that the part of Chalmers Street on which they reside be included in the proposed and current curb-and-gutter program. Council, in considering this petition as well as the City Manager's recommended curb-and- gutter program, decided that in view of the condition of the City's finances at the present time it would further consider the program in stages and 'WOuld decide which project to undertake when and if the money is available; however, Council did authorize as the initial phase or project for new curb and gutter that portion of Cliff Street between Highland and Chalmers Streets. Pursuant to a recent petition submitted by Lanier Farm, Inc., and in accordance wi th the Planning Commission's recoIl1l'nendation, Council ordered changed the name of ltHillside Place", heretofore applied to a street in Forest Park, to uDan-Lee Terrace", the change being made effective immediately.
