<br />2:1 <br /> <br />TUES DAY <br /> <br />AUGUS T 26, 1952 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor J. R. Walker pt'esiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, August 26, 1952, at 7:30 o'clock P. M., all members, <br /> <br />as follows, being present: Mayor and Councilman J. R. Walker, and Counciloon <br /> <br />R. S. Brown, Jr., C. P. Craig, R. S. Hodnett, and W. T. Turner. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Council meeting held August 12, 1952, upon being read, <br /> <br />were appr oved. <br /> <br />Council deferred its regular order of business to hear from Mr. P. S. Murphy, <br /> <br />112 College Street, this city, who requested Council to authorize sorre change <br /> <br />in the sewer lines serving his house and several other properties on College <br /> <br />~€~ <br />~~ <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />street in order that certain alleged unsanitary comitions in that area might <br /> <br />be eliminated; whereupon, Courcil asked City Manager Mathewson and Public Works <br /> <br />Director Maury to investigate these conditions and see what, if anything, can be <br /> <br />done to improve said c ondi ti ons · <br /> <br />Council resumed its regular order of busiress by hearing a report from City <br /> <br />Manager Mathewson as to pt'ogress being made on the study concerning the policy <br /> <br />governing water service to customers outside the City's corporate limits. Mr'. <br /> <br />Mathewson advised that said study woUld entail considerable time and work and, <br /> <br />as a result, he would not be able to present his findings and/or recommendations <br /> <br />for at least several weeks. <br /> <br />Council, next, was advised that a proposal recommending changes in the laws <br /> <br />governing the transportation of explosives in the State of Virginia, pending before <br /> <br />the State Corporation Commission, on w;'ich proposal the Commission will hold a <br />
