She focused on the initiatives for small and minority businesses and <br /> <br />presented a brochure and two charts showing the percentage of small <br /> <br />businesses in our area. Since February of 2006 when the program was <br /> <br />launched with the EDC, they have assisted 143 clients and 137 have <br /> <br />participated in workshop or networking events. Current active projects include <br /> <br />four in manufacturing, four in distribution and one in office. <br /> <br />After comments by Ruth Easley, Commissioner of the Revenue, Council <br /> <br />Member Lawson made a motion to adopt Ordinance 2006-13 relative to tax <br /> <br />exemptions, on first reading; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the <br /> <br />following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5-0. Yeas (5) -Reynolds, Clark, <br /> <br />Anderson, Ferrill, Lawson. Nays (0) - None. Council also requested that the <br /> <br />Commissioner give a quarterly report concerning tax exemption applications <br /> <br />she receives. <br /> <br />Council next considered authorizing the City Treasurer to issue refunds <br /> <br />of $4,959.54 and $2,634.36 to two separate businesses for overpayment of <br /> <br />their 2004 business licenses. Council Member Ferrill made the motion to <br /> <br />authorize the refunds; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the <br />
