4~

TUESDAY

FEBRUAR Y 10, 1959

A report submitted by City Circuit Court Clerk Jesse D. Clift cited the advantages

of the "microfilm system" installed in the Clerk's office some twelve months ago.

Council was informed that two complete sets of film of the records of the Clerk's

office have been prepared, one set held for safe-keeping in a safety deposit box

in a local bank and the other set having been filed in the state Archives in

Richmond, Virginia, the set filed in Richmond being the first such set filed by

any Circuit Court Clerk's office in the State of Virginia.

Upon receipt of the following report and recommendation from the Planning Commission

(dated February 9, 1959), Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing to be

conducted by the Council in the Council Chamber, Tuesday, March 10, 1959, at 7:30

P.M., on the pr oposed amendment to the City's Zoning Code rec ommended by the

~"~i'i
I\..'~J'
,g~
'Ji
\,-'i'.-.

Planning Commission:

Your Planning Commission, at its meeting on Wednesday evening, February 4,
1959, considered a matter of setbacks along the new north to east connector
street or Northside Drive as presented to it in a letter from Mr. Julian F.
Hirst, City Manager. After due consideration of this matter the Commission
voted unanimously to make the following recommendation to Council:

That the zoning ordinance be amended to establish a l5-foot setback along
both sides of this connector street where it passes through property be-
longing to 4lster Lumber Company which is pr'esently zoned as a B-2 indust-
rial classification.

In making the above recommendation, the Commission cornidered the following
in addition to normal considerations:
1. That this setback is a part of the right-of-way agreement between
rester Lumber Company and the City of Martinsville.
2. That the remainder of this street passing through lester Lumber Company
property is in an area presently zoned as A-I Residential and therefore
presently carries a setback of 25 feet.

The Planning Commission respectfully submits the above recommendation for
Council's further consideration.

Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted the following

ordinance, designated "Motor Vehicle License Tax Ordinance", far the license year

beginning March 15, 1959:
