<br />3~ <br /> <br />TUES DAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 10, 1959 <br /> <br />granted, by enacting the following ordinance amending the City's Zoning Code and <br /> <br />Map, the record showing that Councilman Brown abstained from voting: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this tenth day of February, 1959, that <br />the Zoning Code and Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville be and is <br />hereby amended to provide that the property owned by Lanier Farm, <br />Inc., being a triangular-shaped tract of land located at the inter- <br />section of Brookdale street and Spruce Street, adjoining other pro- <br />perty owned by Lanier Farm, Inc., which other property is zoned <br />"B-1 Bus iness", be rezoned from "A-l ResidentLal" to "B-1 Business" <br />in accordance with a map filed with the Planning Commission of the <br />City of Martinsville. <br /> <br />Counc:U accepted with appreciation the annual (1958) report of the Martinsville <br /> <br />Volunteer Fire Company and, further, congratulated and commended the local fire <br /> <br />companj.es upon the recognition awarded them for their fire prevention program <br /> <br />during 1958 by the National Fire Protective Association, Martinsville having won <br /> <br />~[ij1 <br />~l <br />\)~) <br />ltJ <br /> <br />first place among all competing Virginia cities, second place among all cities <br /> <br />of its class (Municipal Class 6) throughout the United States, and tenth place <br />among all U. S. cities (all classes). <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council nominated for <br /> <br />presentation to Judge John D. Hooker, of the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court, for <br /> <br />membership on the City's 1959 Board of Equalization, the following local free- <br /> <br />holders: <br /> <br />Henry T. DeShazo, 112 Starling Avenue, Martinsville, Virginia <br />W. Sherman Donavant, 1L15 Chatham Road, Martinsville, Virginia <br />O. B. Hensley, 812 Starling Avenue, Martinsville, Virginia <br />J. Charles Jones, 628 Mulberry Road, Martinsville, Virginia <br />Dr. E. M. McDaniel, 816 Mulberry Road, Martinsville, Virginia <br />Benjamin W. Via, 18 Ellsworth Street., Martinsville, Virginia <br /> <br />Pending the development of requested information, Council continued the matter of <br /> <br />"City Motor Vehicles". <br />
