<br />366 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 7, 1958 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Coumil of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor John W. Shultz presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br /> <br />City Hall, Tuesday, October 7, 1958, at 7:30 P.M., in lieu of the regularly- <br /> <br /> <br />scheduled meeting for October 14, 1958, by unanimous consent of the Council <br /> <br /> <br />members. All members of Council were present, viz., Mayor and Councilman John <br /> <br />W. Shultz; Vice-Mayor and Councilman E. E. Stone; and Councilmen Rives S. <br /> <br /> <br />Brown, Jr., Thomas J. Burch, and Clarence C. Donavant. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as read the minutes of its regular meeting <br /> <br /> <br />held September 25, 1958, instructirg the Clerk to revise the wording "recommen- <br /> <br /> <br />dation of the committee" in the second senterx;e of the last paragraph on page 36,3 <br /> <br /> <br />to "suggestion of the committee". <br /> <br />After reviewirg the anti-noise ordinance or regulations in effect in the city of <br /> <br /> <br />Memphis, Tennessee, Council directed the City Attorney and the City Manager to <br /> <br /> <br />present their recommerrlation to Counc il as to whether this type of ordinance <br /> <br /> <br />should be enacted by Coumil. <br /> <br />Members of Council discussed not only the City's Electric Department1s tree- <br /> <br /> <br />trimming program but also the reaction of citizens to Councilman Brown's proposal <br /> <br /> <br />presented September 25, 1958 in connection therewith, after which Council requested <br /> <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst to investigate and report on the merits of a long-range program <br /> <br /> <br />of replacing trees interfering with the City IS electric lines with perhaps smaller <br /> <br /> <br />flowering trees. <br />
