Anderson, representing local fishing enthusiasts, appeared before Council <br /> <br />and petitioned that Council not drain Smith Lake which is aJready in the process of <br /> <br />being drained. Council agreed to discontinue further draining of the lake until <br /> <br />Councilmen Brown and Burch could view the property and discuss the matter further <br /> <br />with other CounciJmen. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst briefly outlimd certain phases of the City's proposed sewerage <br /> <br />system improV8mnt program and pointed out certain innnediate construction requirements <br /> <br />(to serve the new Druid Hills School and the new Kroger Super Market on Spruce Street). <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst indicated that certain property owners might contribute to the cost <br /> <br />of constructing these lines and that additional information in connection therewith <br /> <br />will be presented to Council wi thin the very near future. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reminded Council of the forthcoming annual meeting of the League <br />of V:irginia Municipalities to be held in Roanoke, Virginia, September 21-23, 1958. <br /> <br />Noting that Captain Fred Hensley, of the City Fire Department, passed away on this <br /> <br />date after a long illness, Council adopted a resolution expressing its sympathy to <br /> <br />the bereaved and its cognizance of the splendid service rendered the City of <br /> <br />Martirnville by Captain Hensley while a member of the City's Fire Department. <br /> <br /> <br />n, Clerk of Council <br />
