<br />3! <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 9, 1958 <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />with Mayor John W. Shultz presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br />Tuesday, September 9, 1958, at 7:30 P.M., all nembers being present, viz., Mayor an:i <br /> <br />Councilman John W. Shultz; Vice-Mayor and Couroilman E. E. Stone; and Councilmen <br /> <br />C. C. Donavant, Rives S. Brown, Jr., and Thomas J. Burch. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as read the minutes of its regular meeting held <br /> <br />August 26, 1958 and of its organizational meeting held September 1, 1958. <br /> <br />Mayor Shultz announced that the following eight persons have accepted his invitation <br /> <br />to serve on a twelve-member Citizens Safety Committee: Miss Vaughn Hodnett; Mrs. <br /> <br />Ike Anderson; and Messrs. David Ienderking, William B. Muse, Julius Murrell, A. E. <br /> <br />~',-:-,,',',^ <br />Hl <br />I:I~ <br /> <br />Connelly, Walter H. Hagood, and William O. Cotter. <br /> <br />After reviewing events and comments at the public hearing held September 8, 1958 at <br /> <br />the Patrick Hem-y School on proposed on-street parking meter rate changes, as <br /> <br />recomnEnded by the special parking committee, Council voted to defer any action or <br /> <br />further consideration on the proposal until after a full report--novr in process of <br /> <br />,--'" <br /> <br />being prepared far the Planning Canmission by City & Town Planning Associates, <br /> <br />Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on long-range planning for the Citu of Martinsville--is <br /> <br />received and studied by the CounCil, Planning Commission and other interested citizens. <br /> <br />A proposed ordinance amending Sections 9-140 and 9-244 of the City Code, already on <br /> <br />second reading, was placed on third reading for final consideration at Council's <br /> <br />next regular meeting. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of Mayor Shultz, the full membership of City Council agreed to <br /> <br />serve as City representatives in a special City-County committee to study 'Ways and <br /> <br />means of developing the local airport facility. <br />
