<br />3. <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AUGUST 12. 1958 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />with Mayor John W. Shultz presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br /> <br />'fuesday, August 12, 1958, at 7:30 P.M., with all members present, viz., Mayor and <br /> <br />Councilman John W. Shultz; Vice-Mayor and Councilman E. E. Stone; and Councilmen C. C. <br /> <br />Donavant, B. H. Hill, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as read the minutes of its meetings held July <br /> <br />8, 1958, July 17, 1958, and July 22, 1958. <br /> <br />In accordance with duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing <br /> <br />on proposed amendments to the City's Zoning Code, which amendments were placed on <br /> <br />first reading July 22, 1958. Council noted that no one present registered any <br /> <br />oo':cii'i <br />',.'''-;::' <br />ti,,',-':<';' z: <br />J;:C <br />l~ <br /> <br />objections to the proposed amendments and, upon motion which was duly seconded, <br /> <br />unanimously adopted the following ordinance incorporating the proposed amendments in <br /> <br />the Planning and Zoning Code: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED qy the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this twelfth day of August, 1958, that paragraphs <br />(1) and (2) of Section (1.3b) of Title I of the Planning and Zoning Ordinance <br />of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, 1943, and as amended, be amended to <br />prOVide as follows: <br /> <br />,,,- <br /> <br />Section (13b) <br /> <br />Area Exceptions and Regulations <br /> <br />(1) Every room in which one or more persons live, sleep, work, <br />or congregate, except storage rooms or other rooms where the nature <br />of the occupancy does not require direct light and air from the out- <br />side, shall have a total window area to or greater than one-tenth of <br />the floor area of the room. Such windows shall open directly either <br />upon a street or alley not less than 10 feet in width, upon a rear <br />yard, side yard, outer court or enclosed court located upon the same <br />lot and conformihg to the requirements prescribed for these by this <br />Ordinance as to minimum area and least dimenSions. In B-1 and B-2 <br />Districts, any property on which it is intended that dwelling units <br />be constructed, other than for apartment type dwellings, shall be <br />subdivided in accordance with the provisions of the Martinsville <br />Subdivision Ordinance, as amended, and the dwelling units shall be <br />erected so that each unit intended for residential occupancy shall <br />be situated on an individual lot conformihg to the standards of the <br />subdivision ordinance. <br />
