J26 TUESDAY JUNE 10, 19> 8 Upon reconmendation of certain interested persons, Council approved a retainer- salary of $40.00 per month, beginning July 1, 1958, far Mr. J. English Ford as attorney-member of the local Lunacy Commission, in lieu of the five dollars ($5.00) fee allowed per case or hearing under Section 37-75 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, and as amended. Council suggested that this arrangement continue for six months after which it will become subject to review and/or adjustment. Meanwhile, Council instructed its Clerk to prepare or have prepared proper papers requesting the 1960 Virginia General Assembly to revise certain portions of Title 37 of the State Code, particularly Section 37-75 so as to more adequately compensate attorney-members of lunacy commissions. Councilman Walker went on record as being in favor of the requested change in the statutes as well as in favor of adequately compensating members of the conmd.ssion but not in favor of circumventing the current statutes which he felt Council would be doing by establishing a retainer-salary for the attorney-nember. Councilman Walker's vote was recorded as "against" the motion by which Council approved the retainer-salary hereinabove described. By letter of June 10, 1958 the Planning Commission reported that it has approved the subdivision plans presented by Mr. R. S. Foley pertaining to a subdivision development proposed by Mr. Foley far certain of his property off MuJberry Road outside the corporate limits.
