<br />~20 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 27. 1958 <br /> <br />Council continued for further study its consideration of whether to cont.inue <br />or terminate the Southwestern Virginia Gas Company franchise which expires <br />July JO, 1959. <br /> <br />Council deferred consideration of a requested increase in compensation for <br />the attorney-member of the local Innacy Commission. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reported that Mr. R. S. Foley has indicated willingness <br />and intention-with the City's permission-to construct at his expense a <br />6-inch water main within his subdivision development off Mulberry Road <br />outside the corporate limits, to construct an 8-inch water main for <br />approximately 1300 feet along Mu.lbeTr7 Road (150 feet being inside the <br />corporate limits) if the City will build, when conditions permit, an 8-inch <br />water main for a remaining distance of approximately 500 feet--replacing the <br />present 2-inch line--within the corporate limits and. connecting at a point <br />near Corn Tassel Tra.il. It was reported that Mr. Foley further a.greed to <br />guarantee by bond the construction of required sewer lines in his development <br />at some time in the future, pending service to be made available by' the City's <br />proposed sewerage system improvements program. Council tentatively accepted <br />Mr. Foley's proposal pending the preparation of a contract for Council's <br />consideration, which contracrl; shall clearly define the Council's wishes with <br />respect to the sewer service line construction guarantee. <br /> <br />Upon receipt of City Manager Hirst's recommended 1958-59 Budget and his <br />accompanying Budget Message, Council (by a recorded vote which was unamious) <br />placed the budget and appropriation ordinance (as follows) on first reading <br />
