<br />31 <br /> <br />TUES MY <br /> <br />MAY 13, 1958 <br /> <br />statement that public notices relating thereto--and as required by Section 15-766 and <br />Section 33-157 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, and as amended, have been filed: <br /> <br />IN RE CLOSIN:i OF A PORTION OF SUmET DRIVE <br />TO THE C anc IL OF THE CITY OF MARTIN5VILIE: <br /> <br />_. <br /> <br />Your petitioner, George's, Incorporated, a Virginia ccrporation, with <br />its principal office in the City of Martinsville, respectfully represents <br />unto the Council that it :is owner of all the property abutting a certain <br />portion of Sunset Drive in said City, which is shown on a map of said prop- <br />erty, bearing date of Decenber 19, 1957, designated ffRecord Plat, George fS, <br />Inc.", prepared by W. C. Brawn, C. L.S., and aIUlexed to this petition marked <br />Exhibit A and nnde a part hereof, which street is known and designated <br />thereon as Sunset Drive, said portion at said street having never been opened <br />to the public. <br />Your petitioner further respectfully represents that the said portion <br />of Sunset Drive does not serve any useful purpose and could not so serve, <br />and that your petitioner is 'the owrer of all abutting property so that it <br />alone would be affected by the closing of said portion of said street, and <br />your petitiorer would be materially benefitted by such closing and the <br />rights of no person, firm or corporation will, in aIJy way, be damaged by <br />such closing. <br />NON, THEREFORE, in consideration of the premises, your petitioner doth <br />pray that a certa.in portion of Sunset Drive as shown on the map attached <br />hereto be closed, that the may above referred to be placed of record in <br />the clerk's office of the Circuit Court of the City c:J: Martinsville, and <br />that the portion of said street be marked Vacated in accordance with the <br />statutes and laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia in such cases made and <br />provided, and that such notation be shown on the record map. <br />This 28th day of April, 1958. <br /> <br />t~~ <br />Fs <br />:~ <br /> <br />GEORGE'S, I~CRPORATED <br />BY: Claude E. Troxler <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />as a Board of Viewers to ascertain if any inconvenience will result to abutting property <br /> <br />owners should the street be closed and vacated and to report their findings to the <br /> <br />Council. <br /> <br />In continuing its study of local business and occupational license taxation, Council <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />received from City Mana.ger Hirst a comparison of gross receipts license rates of the <br /> <br />cities of Danville, Lyrehburg, Martinsville, and Roanoke. Coumil also received a <br /> <br />letter from Mr. J. Coates Carter, Architect, questioning the license tax rate as <br />
