<br />1 <br /> <br />MONDAY <br /> <br />MAY 20. 1957 <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />Where there is more than one :meter in one building and/or residence <br />and utility service is used exclusively by one and the same purchaser, <br />then there shall be only one tax levied for that purchaser. In <br />apartment buildings there shall be a tax levied for each apartment; <br />however, if the building owner resides in the apartment building, <br />then he or she shall pay only one tax for the serving of hie or her <br />apartment and the hallway (including outside and basement). The <br />tax imposed or levied herein shall be in addition to the electric <br />current and power charges and/or water chargee and shall be placed <br />on the bill of each purchaser and current user in addition to the <br />charges for electric power and current and/or water charges and shall <br />be payable at the same time as electric, light, and power bills and/or <br />wa ter bills are payable. <br /> <br />4. The United States of .America, the State of Virginia, and the <br />political subdivisions, boards, commissions, and authorities thereot <br />are hereby exempt from the payment of the tax imposed and levied by <br />this ordinance with respect to the purchase of utility service used <br />by such governmental agencies. <br /> <br />~igiii <br />\35 <br />fil <br />W <br /> <br />5. .Any purchaser failing, refusing, or neglecting to pay the tax <br />hereby imposed or levied shall, upon conviction, be subject to a fine <br />of not more than dollars; each failure, refusal, neglect or <br />violation and each day's continuance thereof shall constitute a <br />separate offense. And in addition to the fine and penalties hereby <br />imposed, the City Manager and/or person in charge of the utility <br />Service Department of the City shall, upon the failure ot any purchaser <br />to pay the tax hereby levied or imposed, discontinue electric light <br />and power service and/or water service to such purchaser. <br /> <br />6. 'The tax levied or imposed under this ordinance with respect to <br />the purchase of utility service from seller shall be applicable to <br />charges first appearing on bills rendered by seller to purchaser on <br />the first day of July, 1957, and thereafter. <br /> <br />7. That individual designated bJr the Council of the City of Martinsville <br />to collect for utility services shall also be charged with the power and <br />the duty of collecting the taxes levied and imposed hereunder and shall cause the <br />same to be paid into the General Treasury of the City of Martinsville. <br /> <br />Upon rec~ndation of City Manager Hirst, Council approved the construction on a <br />shared-cost basis (as per petition received) of curb-and-gutter on both sides of <br /> <br />Spruce Street from Parkview Avenue to Hundley Street, Council noting that it would <br /> <br />be more feasible as well as economical to construct this curb-and-gutter upon <br /> <br />completion of the present Parkview Avenue curb-and-gutter project while the <br /> <br />equipment is in that area. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />'.. <br /> <br /> <br />_Q a..~(~ <br />
