<br />1~ <br /> <br />W ESDAY <br /> <br />MARCH 12, 1957 <br /> <br />Therefore, Mr. Stone moved, which motion was seconded by Mr. Hill and unanimously <br /> <br />carried, that in pursuance of Section 15-766 of the Code of Virginia as amended, <br /> <br />the public having been duly notified by notice posted in at least three places <br /> <br />in the City of Martinsville, one of which was posted on the front door of the <br /> <br />Court House in the City of Martinsvi1le, at the first day of the February 1957 <br /> <br />Term of Circuit Court, for a period of at least twenty days prior to the <br /> <br />,_. <br /> <br />application and action b,y the said City Council and that Messrs. I. M. Groves, Sr., <br /> <br />I. Wi. Ramsey and J. R. Troxler, in pursuance of the said Code section were appointed <br /> <br />to view the said street proposed to be abandoned and closed and that said viewers <br /> <br />having reported to Council in writing that little inconvenience, if any, would be <br /> <br />caused the public by such action, the Council of the City of Martinsvi lle doth <br /> <br />hereby go on record as having acted favorably on the application of Lester Lumber <br /> <br />~"['; <br />\~, .~.- <br />~Igi <br />I;:'; <br /> <br />,= <br /> <br />Company, Incorporated, and doth hereby abandon, discontinue and close that said <br /> <br />part of Third Street hereinbefore described. And the Clerk of this Council is <br /> <br />herebJ- directed to forward certified copies of these minutes to the Clerk of the <br /> <br />Circui t Court of the City of Martinsvi1le , with the request that he mark the words <br /> <br />"vacated" and "abandoned tt on that part of Third Street hereinbefore described. <br /> <br />After discussing the School Board's recommended school building program, as recently <br /> <br />presented to Council, and the March 7th conference with the State Commission on <br /> <br />Local Debt, Council expressed a desire for additional debt service tables along the <br /> <br />lines of those already prepared and adjusted according to the anticipated money <br /> <br />needs and building schedule. <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor Shultz informed Council that representatives of Southwestern Virg:inia <br /> <br />Gas Company have requested permission to appear again before Council in connection <br /> <br />with the gas company's petition for an extension of their present franchise. <br /> <br />Council, having previously denied the petition, indicated that it would receive <br /> <br />any proposal or proposition in writing from the company. <br />
