<br />96 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 18, 1956 <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst advised Coun:: il of the resignation, effective January 10, <br />1957, of :Mr. Walker H. Graves, Director of the Water-Electric-Street Departnent <br /> <br />and !lBmber of the City Planning COmmission, who is leaving City employment to <br /> <br />enter private business. Mr. Hirst also advised Coumil of the resignation of <br /> <br />Mr. J. E. Minter as Fire Chief, am the appointment of Mr". Cl~ A. Easterly as <br />Fire Chief , effective January 1, 1957, Mr. Minter to be continued on "leave-of- <br /> <br />absence basis" for the time being and Mr. Easterly to continue as Director of <br /> <br />Inspections. To express its appreciation of the valuable services rendered by <br /> <br />both Mr. Graves and Mr. Minter while serving the City, Council asked the City <br /> <br />Manager to prepare appropriate resolutions. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of official notification by the State Compensation <br /> <br />Board of salary and expense allowances made by the Board for local constitutional <br /> <br />offices for the calendar year 1957. <br /> <br />Upon reconunendation of City Manager Hirst, Council authorized the employing of <br /> <br />Wiley & Wilson, Consulting Engineers, !tvnchburg, Virginia, to make and report on <br />a study of the City's water distribution system at an estimated cost of $1,500.00, <br /> <br />this amount to be transferred from the Water Fund's "J2-B <br /> <br />999-B" appropriation <br /> <br />account to a new account for this project. <br /> <br />Upon motion, Council accepted the City Manager's recommendation that, as a token <br /> <br />of appreciation to City employees, food parcels within the cost value set forth <br /> <br />by the Manager be given all City employees with the exception of department heads <br /> <br />and constitutional officers.
