<br />~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JLNE 26. 1956 <br /> <br />The following items on the agenda were continued or actions thereon deferred <br /> <br />for reasons set forth: <br /> <br /> (a) <br /> (b) <br /> (0 ) <br /> (d) <br />/- >> <br /> (e) <br /> , <br /> ( <br /> .' <br /> <br />Taxi-cab tax reduction request -- pending study of the <br />proposed 1956-57 budget and study of the Tax Study <br />Advisory Group's recommendations; <br />Closing portion of Lavinder Street -- necessary legal <br />steps now in process; <br />Beaver Creek Hill (Baldwin) Rezoning Petition -- yet <br />to be considered by Planning Commission; <br />Pumphouse Road Right-of-Way -- deferred at request of <br />City Manager Hirst; and <br />License Tax Code Amendment -- revised draft to be <br />referred to City Attorney Stone. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation ,of City Manager Hirst, as incorporated in his report which <br /> <br />follows, Council granted permission, upon the conditions set forth in the City <br /> <br />Manager's report and recommendation, to the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company <br />I <br /> <br />~ <br />',c~' =.'. <br />)~~ <br />I;::', <br /> <br />to construct a cottage or cabin on Beaver Creek Impounding Reservoir property <br /> <br />on the opposite side of the lake from the lookout platform: <br /> <br />For the information of the Council, the following are the general points <br />of agreement and related information pertaining to the plan of the <br />Volunteer Fire Department for the construction of the cottage at the <br />Impounding Dam. This matter is scheduled for the Council meeting of <br />June 26th and the following information will be presented for consideration <br />by the Council as to content. The Council has generally agreed to the <br />intent of the construction of such a cottage; however, final approval <br />has been reserved pending satisfaction of the following points: <br /> <br />""'....-.., <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />1. The Volunteer organization in its incorporated status has a <br />current net worth of approximately $6,000. It is estimated <br />the cottage will require an expenditure of $4,000; however, <br />the value of the building will be in excess due to the <br />contribution of firemen labor and material and the securing <br />of material at reduced cost. <br /> <br />2. The cottage will be constructed in conformity to the City <br />Code. Plans have been approved by the Director of Inspections <br />and are available and on file. <br /> <br />3. Power will be obtained from the Appalachian Electric Power <br />Company. The firemen will drill a well for their water supply. <br />It will be the responsibility for the Volunteer Fire organization <br />to maintain such insurance as they consider necessary on the <br />building to replace it at fair value. <br />
