<br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 12, 1956 <br /> <br />.~..- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the 'Coun:: il Chamber, City Hall, on <br /> <br />Tuesday, June 12, 1956, at 7:30 P.M., with all members present, as follows: Mayor and <br /> <br />Councilman R. S. Hodnett; Vice-Mayor and Councilman C. P. Craig; and Councilmen B. H. <br /> <br />Hill, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />After the invocation, by Vice-Mayor Craig, Council approved as read the minutes of its <br /> <br />regular meeting held May 22, 1956. <br /> <br />In view of the following report and recorrmendation from the Planning COmmission, which <br /> <br />report and recormnendation Council accepted, Council removed from futher consideration <br /> <br />a proposed ordinance which would effect the rezoning requested by Mr. Roy C. Dodson: <br /> <br />~." <br />r <br /> <br />C <br /> <br />The Planning Commission of the City of Martinsville, at its meeting of May 29, <br />1956, re-studied an item returned to them by City Council for further study. <br />This item was a request for rezoning of certain property lying to the rear of <br />the old location of Radio Station WHEE, from B-1 Business to A-I Residential. <br />The request was recently made by Mr. Roy C. Dodson. The Planning Commission <br />in taking further evidence in this matter learned that :Mr. Roy C. Dodson <br />held no Ie gal interes t in this property. After due cons idera tion of this <br />fact in the light of certain problems arising from this request the Planning <br />Commission voted unanimously to table this matter until such a request comes <br />to it from the legal O1Nners of the property in question. <br /> <br />The Planning Commission respectful1y awaits further instructions in this <br />matter. <br /> <br />Irving R. McGhee, Secretary <br /> <br />In the absence of a report from a Board of Viewers, Council continued the matter <br /> <br />concerning the requested closing of a portion of Smith-Rucker Road. <br /> <br />Again considering a recent petition submitted by Vll'ginia Cab Company through its <br /> <br />attorney, Mr. John J. Hartley, requesting a reduction (from three per cent to two <br /> <br />per cent) in the local gross receipts license tax rate levied on local taxicab <br />
