<br />~28 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE D, 1961 <br /> <br />A t Councilman Burch IS suggestion and recommendation, C ourx::i1 authorized an <br /> <br />engineeril'l?: study of the feasibility and possibility of furnishing City utility <br /> <br />services to the City IS airport prop:lrty for the ultimate developrrent of this <br /> <br />property. <br /> <br />Upon the c ondi tion that the local Retail Merchants Association raises no objection, <br /> <br />Council approved a proposal offered by Station WFMY-'lV, of Greensboro, North <br /> <br />Carolina, whereby SOlIe publicity would be given Martinsville through an aerial <br /> <br />advertising or promotion plan as a part of the s tationls anniversary celebration. <br /> <br />Mr. T. J. Childress, Jr., having earlier duriqs the meeting urged Council to <br /> <br />provide sidewalks along the streets near the Druid Hills ElementarJ School for <br /> <br />the protection of pedestrian traffic, also asked Council to authorize a study be <br /> <br />made to determine if it is feasible and possible to construct a new street <br /> <br />alongside the Norfolk & Western Railway right-of-way from Martinsville Novelty <br /> <br />Corporation plant to Bridge Street, with an outlet at Starli~ Avenue, to <br /> <br />relieve Hairston Street and RiveD Road of their present heavy industrial traffic. <br /> <br />This, upon motion, Council so authorized. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />) " . <br />W~I!H~~fe~'~, .
