<br />~14 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 27. 1960 <br /> <br />thereupon, directed that the business license tax for the year beginning May 1, <br /> <br />1960 shall be computed on the gross receipts of the firm while located within the <br /> <br />corporate limits during the calendar year 1960 and that such steps as may be <br /> <br />necessary to carry out Council's direction be taken. <br /> <br />Representatives of local tobacco warehouses petitioned for the abolition of the <br /> <br /> <br />local business license tax imposed on the operators of these warehouses. Council <br /> <br />indicated that it will give this petition their consideration. <br /> <br />No action was taken on salary and expense requests submitted by the local <br /> <br /> <br />constitutional officers for the calendar year 1961, pending a conference between <br /> <br /> <br />Council and the several individual officers on Friday, September 30, 1960. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council appointed Mr. J. English <br /> <br /> <br />Ford, Attorney at Law, as right-of-w~ negotiator in connection with the acquisition <br /> <br /> <br />of right-of-way necessary to the reconstruction of Route 58 from Bob Gregory Street <br /> <br /> <br />to the City's east corporate limits on said Route 58. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst, after presenting a report on local jail detention facilities <br />in conne ction ID.th the reported termination by the Henry County Board of Supervisors <br />of its contract with the City for the detention of City prisoners at the Henry <br />County Jail, was instructed to contact representatives of the Henry County Board <br />of Supervisors in an effort to develop a new contract mutually acceptable to the <br />County and to the City. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Hirst, Council transferred the sum of $400.00 <br />from the General Fund's Emergency Account to the Traffic Department budget to <br />provide for improved traffic direction signals at Church and Oakdale Streets and <br />to nrovidA for a stand-by unit at the intersection of Favette and Church Streets <br /> <br />
