<br />~12 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 13, 1960 <br /> <br />Several rembers of Coumil, who attended the recent Local Goverrment Officials <br /> <br />Conference in Charlottesville, commented favorably on the information and its <br /> <br />presentation at this meeting. <br /> <br />Announcement was made of the forthcoming annual meeting of the League of Virginia <br /> <br />Municipalities to be held in Roanoke, Virginia, September 18th-20th. <br /> <br />As a result of his informal discussion with the City Planning Commission on the <br /> <br />interest recently expressed by the Martinsville Coca-Cola Company in acquiring from <br /> <br />the City its Prison Farm property, City Manager Hirst suggested that the Council <br /> <br />confer with the Commission before formulating any decision with respect to the <br /> <br />bottling company's inquiry. <br /> <br />Councilman Burch suggested that traffic direction devices at the corner of Broad <br /> <br />and Church Streets be charged to permit and provide improved safety comitions <br /> <br />for pedestrians at this intersection, to which suggestion City Manager Hirst <br /> <br />indicated that consideration is being given this matter with the intent of <br /> <br />revising and improving these devices as soon as construction is completed on the <br /> <br />new Globman building on the north side of Church Street. <br /> <br />Council was adjourred. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />~ <br />W.
