<br />.90 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AUGreT 9, 1960 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor John W. Shultz presiding, was held in the Courcil Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, Tuesday, August 9, 1960, at 7:15 P.M., and with all members present, <br /> <br />viz., Mayor and Councilman John W. Shultz; Vice-Mayor and Councilman E. E. <br /> <br />Stone; Councilman Thomas J. Burch; Councilman Clarence C. Donavant; and <br /> <br />Councilman J. Frank Wilson. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as read the minutes of its regular meeting <br /> <br />held July 26, 1960. <br /> <br />In preparation for its consideration of pending curb-and-gutter petitions on file, <br /> <br />Cou.n::il agreed to view the various projects on August 16, 1960 and, also, to <br /> <br />include a Smith Road petition for curb-arrl-gutter (involving Albert Harris School <br /> <br />property) in its viewing and consideration. <br /> <br />By authorization of Council on July 26, 1960, Mayor Shultz subsequently appointed <br /> <br />a Board of Viewers to serve in the matter of the petition of Morris Novelty <br /> <br />Furniture Corporation, through its counsel (Attorney M. H. MacBryde, Jr.), <br /> <br />req11€sting the vacating and abandonment of Third and Fourth Streets in the Watt <br /> <br />Street vicinity pursuant to Section 15-766 of the Virginia Code. The viewers <br /> <br />appointed b;y Mayor Shultz were: Messrs. S. S. Flythe, Whitrey Shumate, and <br /> <br />Robert S. Morse, meeting with Courcills unanimous confirmation. Council then <br /> <br />received the following report (dated August 9, 1960) of said Board of Viewers, <br /> <br />after which Cou.n::il decided to wi. thhold its decision on the petition and report <br /> <br />pending its viewing the site and property on August 16, 1960: <br /> <br />Your undersigned, who were appointed as viewers pursuant to action <br />of Martinsville City Council, respectfully report that in conformity with <br />the said appointment they proceeded to the site of Third and Fourth <br />
