<br />1~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />.roNE 14, 1960 <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration and <br /> <br /> <br />recommendation, a petition submitted through Mr. Frank I. Richardson, Jr., <br /> <br />Attorney and counsel for petitioner, requesting the rezoning to "B-1 Businesstt <br /> <br /> <br />that property presently occupied by Shelton's Pharmacy on Oakdale Street, to <br /> <br /> <br />permit the adaptation of the property to professional usage. <br /> <br />In recognj,tion of concern expressed by various citizens and parents, Council <br />referred to City Manager Hirst (along with Police Chief Bolejack and City <br />Attorney Taylor) for recommendation (as how best to handle) the problem <br />recently created by trucks vending iced or frozen products on residential <br />streets. This problem has to do with groups of children patronizing these <br />vending trucks and endangering their lives by forgetting or not watching for <br />passing vehicles. <br /> <br />The Planning Commission notified Council that it has resumed its study in <br /> <br /> <br />connection with preparation of a revised Zoning Code and that it hoped that <br /> <br /> <br />such a revised code will be ready to present to Council in the near future. <br /> <br />Through its president, Mr. C. T. Williams, Jr., Southwestern Virginia Gas <br />Company notified Council of proposed local gas tariff adjustments to become <br />effective July 1, 1960. <br /> <br />In response to some concern expressed by owners of property adjacent to <br /> <br /> <br />an alleyway between Starling Avenue and Cleveland Street, entering Cleveland <br /> <br /> <br />near 15 Cleveland Street, wherein it is proposed by the owners of property at <br /> <br /> <br />15 Cleveland Avenue (a new professional office building) to open and improve <br /> <br /> <br />said alleyway, Council agreed to view the alleyway and examine the merits and <br /> <br />disadvantages thereof. <br />
