<br />1~ <br /> <br />TUFSDA Y <br /> <br />MARCH 22, 1960 <br /> <br />current budget, to a "municipal building fundfl, authorizing the investing of such <br />monies to the accrual of this fund. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reported that Globmanls, InC., has offered (without cost to the <br /> <br /> <br />City) the City additional right-of -way from the Globman property at the corner <br /> <br /> <br />of Br'oad and Church streets (recently purchased from the First Baptist Church) for <br /> <br />the widening of Broad and Church streets if the City will make use of the right-of-way <br /> <br /> <br />and establish a grade for final design of Church Street to permit immediate <br /> <br /> <br />development by Globman's of its property. Coureil indicated acceptance of tm <br /> <br /> <br />offer and directed that efforts be made to obtain additional right-of-way from other <br /> <br /> <br />property owners on the south side of Church Street from Broad to Ellsworth Street to <br /> <br /> <br />permit widening of the entire block. Mr. Irving M. Groves, Jr., of the Piedmont Trust <br /> <br /> <br />Ban.1(, appeared before Council in behalf of Mrs. O. D. Ford, who o,vns property fronting <br /> <br /> <br />on the south side of Church Street within the aforementioned block. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst presented a schedule of streets on which curb-and-gutter has been <br /> <br />constructed or is in the process of being constructed, noting that this will complete <br /> <br />the authorized al10cati on for the current budget year. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged with appreciation receipt of the annual report of the Recreation <br />Depc:rtment for the year 1959. <br /> <br />C:U;,y Manager Hirst informed Cour:c il that the cost of removing snow from local streets <br /> <br /> <br />since January 1, 1960 has amounted to $li,218.93 and that no estimate has been compiled <br /> <br /> <br />of the cost of repairing streets damaged during the unusually heavy snovrfaLLs. <br />
