<br />.46 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MA.RCH .22, 1960 <br /> <br />Council approved too following budget, in summary, for the local Department <br /> <br />of Public Welfare for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1961: <br /> <br />Total <br /> <br />Cityls <br />Share <br /> <br />Personal Services . . . . . . . <br />Other Operating Expenses ... <br />Assistances . . . . . . ." . . . <br /> <br />. . <br /> <br />$ 8,550.00 <br />1,625.00 <br />62,777.00 <br /> <br />~p 4,275.00 <br />812.50 <br />9,013.76 <br /> <br />. . <br /> <br />. . <br /> <br />$72,952.00 <br /> <br />~14, 101. 26 <br /> <br />In acknowledging receipt of the annual report of the Martinsville Volunteer Fire <br /> <br />Company for the year 1959, Council commended the Fire Company for its outstanding <br /> <br />record and then adopted the following resolution in recognition and appreciation: <br /> <br />WID::R.EAS, the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company, from its date of organization <br />over ten years ago, through its varied activities--especially through its <br />outstanding fire prevention and fire protection--has been a tremendous asset <br />and credit to the City of Martinsville and its citizens; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Coureil of too Cit,y of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this twenty-second day of ~~ch, 1960, on the <br />occasion of receiving the annual report of the Martinsville Volunteer Fire <br />Company for the calendar year 1959, that said Council with pleasure and <br />esteem does hereby and herein commend the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company <br />and its members for their faithful and efficient performance of duty and, <br />further, does offer this expression not only as a commendation to this <br />organization but also in appreciation and meriterious recognition. <br /> <br />Coun::: il indicated no changes in or revisi ons of the City I s Business and Occupational <br /> <br />License Tax Ordinance which automatically renews itself--unless otherewise amended-- <br /> <br />each license year beginning May 1. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reported that preparation of too 1960-61 City Budget is now <br /> <br />in process and that preliminary examinations of revenues and experrlitures anticipate <br /> <br />a serious problem in developing a balanced budget without a curtailment of <br /> <br />essential services. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Upon City Manager Hirst's recommendation, Coun::il appropriated the sum of $12,592 .19-from <br /> <br />excess revenue realized from the sale of timber--along with $10,000.00 provided in the <br />
