<br />1~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 26, 1960 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it appearing to Council that condemnation proceedings against <br />the interest of James W. Staley in certain lands on East Church Street, City <br />of Martinsville, Virginia, heretofore authorized cannot be concluded prior <br />to the anticipated connnencerrent of construction of said street widenirg and <br />improvement project and there exists a necessity for the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia to be able to enter upon and begin work on the same; <br /> <br />/- <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFCRE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martins vi lle , <br />Virginia, at its regular meeting this 26th day of January, 1960, that it duly <br />appointed attorney and agent, Claude E. Taylor, Jr., file in the Clerk's <br />Office of the Circuit Court of the City of Mart:insville the necessary certi- <br />ficate as provided by Section 25-234, Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, <br />showing the deposit with the said Clerk the sum of money estimated to be the <br />fair 'value of the interest in the land of the said James W. Staley to be <br />taken and the daIrages, if any, before entering upon such land; <br /> <br />AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Treasurer of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, deposit with the said Clerk the said sum of money above provided. <br /> <br />In continuing its consideration of the recent Ramsey-Baldwin petition requesting <br /> <br />the closing of that portion of Sellers Street between West Church Street am <br /> <br />Memorial Boulevard near Fayette Street, Courx::il received from City Manager Hirst <br /> <br />certain recormnemations which, in the opinions of the City Manager and the Public <br /> <br />Works Department and the Traffic-Planning Engineer, would provide for better <br /> <br />usage of the Ramsey-Baldwin property and in the interest of the public as well as <br /> <br />the petitioners; however, Council assured the petitioners that, if these <br /> <br />recoIlllOOndations are not acceptable to them, Courx::il would abide by its verbal <br /> <br />agr"eement with and verbal commitments to the petitioners made at the time Council <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />viewed the property. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />(S\~~" <br />w.
