<br />.22 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 26, 1960 <br /> <br />Mr. RObert H. Haskell, Jr., Publisher of the Martinsville Bulletin, through <br /> <br />his counsel, (Mr. William F. Stone of Joyce & Stone, Attorneys at Law), <br /> <br />requested the rezoning to "business" of that portion of the Mary wve Cobb <br /> <br />property--not already so zoned--recently acquired by Martinsville Bulletin <br /> <br />and adjacent to the Bulletin building. Counc il referred this petition to the <br /> <br />Planning Commission for its consideration and recommendation. <br /> <br />As a matter of interest, City Manager Hirst pointed out to Council that, <br /> <br /> <br />because of certain buildirg cons truction now in progress between East Church <br /> <br /> <br />Street and East Main Street, it has become necessary to extend a sewer main <br /> <br />from a point on Broad Street near the Henry Hotel to the north side of East <br /> <br /> <br />Church Street to serve properties heretofore served by a nain on East Main <br /> <br /> <br />Street. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of a request from !.ester Lumber Company, Inc., <br /> <br /> <br />that curb-and-gutter-and-sidewalk construction on a shared-cost basis be <br /> <br /> <br />authorized, pending availability of funds, at Liberty Street and Northside <br /> <br /> <br />Drive. <br /> <br />By letter dated January 26, 1960, Mrs. Elizabeth P. Dempsey, 400 Oakdale street, <br /> <br />protested a recent change in the elevation of an alleyway off Minor Street <br /> <br />which Mrs. Dempsey alledged has adversely affected her usage of the alleyway <br /> <br />adjacent to her property and that of Mr. H. P. Dillon. Council agreed to <br /> <br />view the alleyway on Friday, January 29th. <br /> <br />Council approved for the signatures of Mayor Shultz and Council's Clerk the <br /> <br /> <br />following resolution pertaining to authorized condemnation proceedings against <br /> <br /> <br />the interest of JaIOOS W. Staley, referred to in Council mirmtes of January 12, <br /> <br /> <br />1960: <br />
