Brown, Jr., on behalf of the Virginia Travel Council, <br /> <br /> <br />Council endorsed the proposal to extend U.S. Route 58 through Kentucky to St. Louis, <br /> <br /> <br />Missouri. <br /> <br />In response to City Manager Hirst's inquiry regarding policy and interpretation of <br /> <br />the City's ordinance regulating the extending of city utilities outside the corporate <br /> <br />limits, Council indicated that, in the case in question regarding a local industry's <br /> <br />plans to establish a storage yard outside the corporate limits, so long as the City <br /> <br />is able to assess and collect business license taxes on the total gross receipts of <br /> <br /> <br />the company and the prevailil"'.g f1outside" water rates are paid by the company there <br /> <br /> <br />would be no bar to the water line being extended to serve the storage yard. <br /> <br />In order that several members of Council might attend the forthcoming annual League <br /> <br /> <br />of Virginia Municipalities meeting to be held September 20th-23rd, Council postponed <br /> <br /> <br />its next regularly-scheduled meeting (for September 22, 1959) to September 29, 1959. <br /> <br />Mr. W. K. Plltney, Jr., and other representatives of the local Pony League baseball <br /> <br /> <br />organization appeared before Council and expressed their appreciation of Coureil's <br /> <br /> <br />assistance, financial and otherwise, in making English Field available for use of <br /> <br /> <br />the Pony League during the current season. In addition, these gentlemen presented <br /> <br /> <br />to the Cit'rJ a check in the amount of one hundred dollars ($100.00) for use in <br /> <br /> <br />recreational activity in the City. <br /> <br />A petition submitted by Mr. T. J. Childress, Jr., requesting the rezoning to <br />IIB-l Business" a certain lot on Brookdale Street, between the Early and Wray <br />properties, was referred to the Planning Commission for its consideration and <br />reCOTI1rne ndation. <br />
