Phillips, Covington <br /> <br />Road (outside the City's corporate limits), for a reduction in water rates or <br /> <br />possibly including garbage collection service in the present water rates charged. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council authorized City <br /> <br />.... <br />Mamger Hirst to execute, on behalf of the City, an agreerrent between the Danville <br /> <br />& '{{estern Railway Company, the Carolina & Northwestern Railway Company, the <br /> <br />Commonwealth of V:i.rginia, and the City of Martireville, granting, insofar as the <br /> <br />railways are concerned, permission to the State of V:irginia (Highway Department) <br /> <br />to widen the overhead bridge on East Church Street and over the Carolina & <br /> <br />Nortlnvestern railway tracks and right-of-way, in connection with the proposed <br /> <br />widening of Route 58 within the City at some future date. <br /> <br />In accordance with Section 24-45 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA, 1950, and as amended, <br /> <br />and upon request of the City's Electoral Board, Council ordered that the voting <br /> <br />place for Precinct No.5 shall be removed from the City Warehouse to the new <br /> <br />Druid Hills Elementary School on Indian Trail. <br /> <br />In response to an inquiry from representatives of the Martinsville Kiwanis Club, <br /> <br />sponsors of the Henry County Exposition, Council indicated no objections to a <br /> <br />flight of U. S. Air Force jet planes over the City to inaugurate the Kiwanis Club's <br /> <br />1959 Exposition. <br />
