Provides for resurfacing or plant mix paving of existing streets and surfacing <br /> <br />of presently unpaved streets at a net cost to the city of $58,015.50. <br /> <br />Several streets scheduled for resurfacing or new paving had of necessity to <br /> <br />be canceled this year. However, with the completion of this program only a <br /> <br />few small street sections in the city will remain unpaved. <br /> <br />The continued increasing road work activity by construction companies in <br /> <br />the Martinsville area has kept the city alert to its costs of paving in compari- <br /> <br />son with work by contract. This comparison is being kept under study. <br /> <br />Based on current analysis and information, the city would be justified in <br /> <br />continuing, for the present, handling its own work. Plant mix cost to the <br /> <br />street division which has previously been set at $9.30 per ton has been <br /> <br />reduced in this budget to $ 7. 59. Double seal treatment last year sold to the <br /> <br />street division at 37~ per square yard, has been reduced to 30~ with a pro- <br /> <br />duction cost of 17. 48~. Surface treatment (new pavement) is being set for <br /> <br />50~ per square ya rd to the street division with net production cost charged <br /> <br />at 31. 3~ . <br /> <br />In the schedule for 1959-60 the plant mix resurfacing of Memorial Boulevard <br /> <br />South is the big item, and Northside Drive is the major new surface project. <br /> <br />The paving program is as follows: <br /> <br />- 17 - <br />
