BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MAR TINSVILLE~ Section 1. Definitions. a. Whenever the word 'lgrantee" appears in this ordinance, it is intended to designate and shall be held to mean .---- and assigns. , its successors b. Whenever the word "city" appears in this ordinance, it is intended to designate and shall be held to mean the City of Martinsville, Virginia. c. Whenever the words "natural gas" appears in this ordinance, it is intended to designate and shall be held to mean natural gas of the quality and character produced by (' nature in the natural gas fields of Texas, Louisana. or elsewhere~ d. Whenever the word llstreett1 appears in this ordinance, it is intended and shall be held, to mean streets, alleys, avenues. highways, or any other public way in the City of Martinsville. e. Whenever the word "service" appears in this ordinance, it is intended, and shall be held, to have the meaning given said term in Section 56-233 of the Virginia Code of 1950, or in any amendments thereto. SectiOn 2. Grant of Authority. Subject to the provis ions, conditions, and restrictions hereinafter set forth, there is hereby granted to , grantee, for a period of years after the ,~effective date of this ordinance, the non-exclusive right to erect, construct, operate and maintain a gas plant, gas system or both, and to import, transport, sell and dis- tribute natural gas, or a mixture of natural and manufactured gas, within the limits of the city, and for these purposes to establish the necessary facilities and equipment and to lay and maintain gas mains, service pipes and other appurtenances necessary to the _ sale and distribution of gas in and along the streets of the city and to do all things which .lre reasonably necessary or customary in the accomplishment of these objectives, - 2 -
