<br />~o <br /> <br />MAY 12, 1959 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />said Council to permit them to amend their petition heretofore filed for <br />closing a part of an alley existing northwardly one hurrlred fifty-six <br />(156) feet from Jefferson Street, between Lots 31 and 32 as shmr.n on the <br />map of Section A of Thomas Heights, so as to permit them. to proceed under <br />Section 15-766 as well as Section 15-766.1 of the Code of Virginia and <br />Title 1, Section 2 (17) of the Charter of the City of Martinsville to <br />accomplish the purpose of closing the said alley as is sought in the <br />petition heretofore filed. <br /> <br />ARTHUR. DENT <br />ZALD\ SMITH DEN!' <br /> <br />C ounc il withheld the appointing of a Board of Viewers, as requested in acc ordance <br /> <br />with Section l5-766 of the Code of Virginia, pending further consideration. <br /> <br />Council continued for further study a draft of a proposed ordinance setting <br /> <br />forth suggested anti-noise regulations in the City. <br /> <br />COUJlcil was advised by City Manager Hirst and City A ttarney Taylor that are-draft <br /> <br />of a gas franchise ordinance will soon be available for C01IDCil's study. City <br /> <br />Manager Hirst sugges ted an outline of procedure in connection va th the adoption <br /> <br />of a gas franchise ordinance, the advertising thereof for bids, and the receiving <br /> <br />of bids. <br /> <br />C ounc i1man R. S. Brovm, Jr., Pres ident of Lanier Farm, Inc., on behalf of said <br /> <br />Lanier Farm, presented an executed docmnent granting without cost to the City <br /> <br />a right-of-way easerent permitting the City to construct or have constructed over <br /> <br />Lanier Farm property on Indian Trail a sewer line to serve the new Druid Hills <br /> <br />Elementary School on Indian Trail, which sewer line would follOi'r Indian Trail to <br /> <br />a point near or east of Lake Lanier dam. C ounc il accepted said easement agree- <br /> <br />ment and, at the same time, authorized City Manager Hirst to enter into another <br /> <br />agreemant with Lanier Farm, Inc., accepting the terms and conditions outlined by <br />
