TUESDAY APRIL 14, 1959 proper maintenance and improvements of rural (secondary) roads through the State : VVHEREAS, there has come to the attention of Martinsville City Council the probability that funds to maintain and improve important rural roads of the State of Virginia are or will be insufficient if the emphasis on the interstate highvray system is continued; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Cou.~il of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this fourteenth day of April, 1959, that it hereby and herein requests highway policy- making authorities of the Commonwealth of Virginia to maintain a balanced program of highway maintenance and improvements; and BE IT FURTHER. RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be forwarded to Martimvil1e's representatives in the Virginia General Assembly, and to members of the State Highway Commission. Council acknowledged receipt of final plans for reconstruction of Routes 57-58 (from Booker Road to Bob Gregory Street). Upon reconnnendation of City Manager Hirst, COUIJ.':il authorized the exercising of its purchase option (see minutes of January 13, 1959) with Mr. H. Banks Panni11, et als, for the purchase of two lots on Grandview Road, in the Chatham Heights area, far the total sum of $1,300.00 far which funds were appropriated in the 1958-59 budget, these two lots to be used as a s ita for a water storage tank or reservoir. Upon request of Mr. :M. Harrison Joyce, counsel for Arthur Hooker Sales Company, Inc., petitioner, Cou."1cil carried forward to its April 28th meeting the request for a rezoning to liB-I Business" the petitioner's property on Brown Street.
