<br />4f <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 12. 1965 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Council also reported on its viewing of conditions along Whittle Road, <br /> <br /> <br />referred to in Council's minutes of September 28, 1965, and agreed to temporarily <br /> <br /> <br />improving these conditions, i.e., restoring destroyed pavement and stabilizing <br /> <br />shou~ders, inasmuch as more permanent improvements would not be practicable <br /> <br />until after winter settling and until after utility construction work in the <br /> <br />area is completed. <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />Reference was made to the status of Appalachian Power Company's electrical <br /> <br />distribution system (and customers) within the area annexed to the City as of <br /> <br />January 1, 1965, acquisition of which by the City is still pending. <br /> <br />Council continued for further consideration the selecting of local IIfree-holders" <br /> <br />for recommendation to the Martinsville City Circuit Court as appointees to the <br />forthcoming 1966 Board of Assessors. <br /> <br />^""-,, <br /> <br />In connection with the City's acquisition of property at the corner of Starling <br /> <br /> <br />Avenue and Mulberry Road Extension and along the south side of Mulberry Road <br /> <br /> <br />Extension from Mr. K. C. Whittle, Jr., in May of 1965, for the widening of <br /> <br /> <br />Mulberry Road Extension, Council directed Commissioner of the Revenue J. Davis <br /> <br />Morris to relieve Mr. 'Whittle of (and pro-rate to the City) the 1965 real <br /> <br />estate taxes applicable to the portions acquired by the City, from date of <br /> <br />deeds of transfer. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reported that the property on Mica Street, to which Mr. <br /> <br /> <br />J. S. Harris on September 28th requested permission to extend a City sewer line, <br /> <br />is sufficiently located within the City's corporate boundary as not to involve <br /> <br />the City's regulations governing the extending of City utility lines outside <br />the City. <br />
