<br />4~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 7. 1965 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />As a matter of record and in connection with the public announcement released <br /> <br />August 30, 1965, City Manager Hirst submitted his resignation as Martinsville <br /> <br />City Manager, effective at the close of business October 14, 1965, to assume <br /> <br />the City Managership of the City of Roanoke, Virginia on October 15th. In <br /> <br />accepting Mr. Hirst's resignation, Council expressed itself as doing so most <br /> <br />reluctantly and with deepest regrets but with its very best wishes to Mr. Hirst <br /> <br />,~. <br /> <br />in his new position. <br /> <br />With appreciation Council accepted a deed of conveyance from Mr. and Mrs. <br /> <br />Clarence C. Donavant, donating to the City a strip of land (from one foot to <br /> <br />two feet in width) along the south side of Mountain Road, enabling the City to <br /> <br />construct curb-and-gutter along this street. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council authorized Mayor <br /> <br />Wilson to execute--on behalf of the CitY--an agreement (or two agreements) with <br /> <br />the Norfolk & Western Railway Company providing for the crossing of railway <br /> <br />right-of-way with an eight-inch water line at Bridge Street and with an eight- <br /> <br />inch sewer line near the W. M. Bassett Furniture Company plant. <br /> <br />",_. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council accepted a proposal <br /> <br />(dated August 5, 1965) submitted by the Trust Department of the Piedmont Trust <br /> <br />Bank whereby the City will acquire properties or portions thereof on Mulberry <br /> <br />Extension owned by the S. Arthur Hooker Estate for the widening and improving of <br /> <br />Mulberry Extension as a phase of the City's street thoroughfare program, the <br /> <br />,.- <br /> <br />proposal being in summary as follows: <br /> <br />House at 313 Mulberry Extension <br />Land at 313 Mulberry Extension <br />Damages at 313 Mulberry Extension <br />Land at 315 Mulberry Extension <br />Damages at 315 Mulberry Extension <br /> <br />$6,000.00 <br />500.00 <br />800.00 <br />500.00 <br />1 .000.00 <br /> <br />Total Settlement (Value) <br /> <br />~oo.oo <br />
