48

TUESDAY

SEPTEMBER 7, 1965

With an expression of sincere appreciation of the excellent services already

rendered by members of the Board of Zoning Appeals, all of whose terms

expired September 1, 1965, Council unanimously reappointed these members

for three-year terms expiring August 31, 1968, viz., Messrs. R. G. Atkins,

J. F. Hankins, O. B. Hensley, Ewell B. Holt, and O. Thomas Morgan.

In again considering the petition--for which denial has been twice recommended

by the Planning Commission--requesting the rezoning to "C-2 Commercial" of

those properties along the north side of East Church Street between Starling

and Oakdale Streets, Council acknowledged receipt of a written commentary on

this subject by City Manager Hirst, as well as the presence of Mr. John D.

Epperly, Attorney at Law and counsel for petitioners. Council then directed

that an informal meeting be scheduled between Council and the petitioners

(or their counsel) to discuss various aspects of the proposed rezoning, which

meeting was tentatively scheduled for the late afternoon of Thursday,

September 16th.

Council also acknowledged receipt of the following bids for the construction

of a sewer line, part of which would replace a present line section, in the

vicinity of American Furniture Company plants and the area identified as

Broad and Maple Streets and the Norfolk & Western Railway near those points,

with Council accepting the lowest bid, viz., that of Prillaman & Pace:

Hackler-Seymour Metal Works
Laramore Construction Company
Prillaman & Pace . . . . . . .

$44,437.36;
$49,125.00; and
$ 37, 175.60.
