3~ TUESDAY MARCH 9, 1965 'State requirements before the area vIaS annexed to the City (on January 1, 1965), although to obtain State Highway Department maintenance funds (for secondary roads) such pavement must be at least thirty feet in width; whereupon Council authorized the addition of ten feet of pavement by the Ci ty to the t'wenty feet to be installed by the developer in order to be eligible for such maintenance funds. Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council granted permission to Mr. Mo::-ton W. Lester, of the Lester Corporation, to extend a City sewer line from the west side of Valley View Hoad to a point in said street to serve three 10t:3 owned by Mr. Lester and on which he proposes to build residences, all being outside the City's corporate limits and all at Mr. Lester's expense, subject to the City's regulations as to construction and as to tariffs. Council unanimously agreed to accept the offer of Mr. Kennon C. Whittle, Jr., to sell to the City--for the sum of$11,OOO.OO--a sixty-foot strip of land bordering the south side of Mulberry Extension, from Starling Avenue west to City-owned property at 316 Mulberry Extension, as right-of-way for the ,- widening of this street. Upon recorrunendation of City Manager Hirst, Council approved--for execution by appropriate city officials--an agreement with the Norfolk & Western Railway Company providing for the crossing of the rail'way company's right-of- \,my with a sewer line in the vicinity of First Street in West End, in connection with sewer line construction contract with Laramore Construction Company.
