<br />.... . <br /> <br />Where there is more than one meter in one building and/or residence and utility <br />service is used exclusively by one and the same purchaser, then there shall be only <br />one tax levied for that purchaser. In apartment buildings there shall be a tax levied <br />for each apartment; however, if the building owner resides in the apartment building, <br />then he or she shall pay only one tax for the serving of his or her apartment and the <br />hallway (including outside and basement). The tax imposed or levied herein shall be <br />in addition to the City utility service charges and shall be placed on the bill of each <br />purchaser and current user in addition to the charges for City utility service charges <br />and shall be payable at the same time as City utility bills are payable. <br /> <br />4. The United States of America, the state of Virginia, and the political sub- <br />divisions, boards, commissions, and authorities thereof are hereby exempt from the <br />payment of the tax imposed and levied by this ordinance with respect to the purchase <br />of utility service used by such governmental agencies. <br /> <br />5. Any purchaser failing, refusing, or neglectine to pay the tax hereby imposed <br />or levied shall, upon conviction, be subject to a fine of not more than ten (:~10.00) <br />dollarS'; and each failure, refusal, neglect or violation and each day's continuance <br />thereof shall constitute a separate offense. In addition to the fine and penalties <br />hereby imposed, the City Manager and/or person in charge of the utility billing <br />division of the City shall, upon the failure of any purchaser to pay the tax hereby <br />levied or imposed, discontinue city utility service to such purchaser. <br /> <br />6. The tax levied or imposed under this ordinance with respect to the purchase <br />of utility service from seller shall be applicable to charges first appearing on bills <br />rendered by seller to purchaser on the first day of April, 1965, and thereafter. <br /> <br />7. That individual designated by the Council of the City of Martinsville to <br />collect for utility services is hereby charged with the power and the duty of <br />collecting the taxes levied and imposed hereunder and shall cause the same to be paid <br />into the General Treasury of the City of Hartinsville. <br /> <br />8. This ordinance cancels, replaces and supersedes an ordinance of similar title <br />adopted June 11, 1957, and any amendments thereto. <br /> <br />Adopted: February 23, 1965 <br /> <br />A Copy - Attest: <br /> <br />w.
