<br />3f <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 23, 1965 <br /> <br />W'.-IEREAS, by resolution adopted December 15, 1964, the Council of <br />the City of Martinsville did petition the Virginia Department <br />of Highways for a relocation of a portion of the routing of <br />Virginia Primary Route 57 within the corporate limits of the <br />City of Martinsville; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Highways has acted upon said <br />petition to the extent that it will authorize and conduct a <br />SIITVey and study, necessary to its consideration of said petition, <br />upon the condition that the City of Martinsville agrees to pay <br />a specified share of the cost of such a survey and study; now, <br />therefore, <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this twenty-third day of <br />February, 1965, that it doth hereby agree to pay its proportionate <br />part of the cost of said survey and study, the total cost of <br />which is estimated to be $3,000.00 and of which the City of <br />Martinsville1s share is estimated to be $375.00; and <br /> <br />BE IT FUHTHER 11.ESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be <br />forwarded to the Virginia Department of Highways. <br /> <br />Pursuant ~o Council's suggestion of February 9, 1965, Mr. C. Harry Anglin <br /> <br />presented a written proposal (consisting of a letter of explanation, financial <br /> <br />remuneration, and specimen franchise) for a franchise permitting him to construct <br /> <br />and operate a Community Antenna Television (CATV) facility within the City. <br /> <br />Letters urging Council to give careful and deliberate consideration, before <br /> <br />acting on any CATV proposal, were received from the Patrick-Henry Broadcasting <br /> <br />Corporation, the Virginia Electronic Association (Martinsville & Henry County), <br /> <br />and the National Alliance of Television and Electronic Service Association. <br /> <br />Also urging study of this matter was, in person, the Public Relations Director <br /> <br />of Station WSJS-TV, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Council, in an effort to <br /> <br />obtain all information possible on this subject, agreed to confer informally <br /> <br />in a group meeting with representatives of these groups and with all other <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />interested parties. <br />
