3f

TUESDAY

JANUARY 26, 1965

indicating acceptance by the City of Martinsville of said Federal
grant offer.

Council noted that not only in the preceding offer but also in other projects

in which the Federal Government has participated and is now participating

financially, Federal financial aid is contingent--presently and retroactively--

upon stipulations enacted by the United States Congress in 1964. Council

further noted that these stipulations would apply to federal aid tOvJard

the construction of the new Health Center, now in progress, necessitating

the agreeing to these stipulations by the City. Expressing the conviction

that it had no choice but to agree, Council authorized City Manager Hirst to

execute in the City's behalf such documents as are required to be executed for

the Health Center project.

City Manager Hirst informed Council that the current contract project on

capital expansion of the Electric Utility System includes the rebuilding and

enlarging of the electric metering station on Watt Street and, accordingly,

requires the enlarging of the area leased by the City from Appalachian Power

Company at this station. This, City Manager Hirst pointed out, would require

an appropriate amendment to the City1s contract with Appalachian Power Company,

dated June 1, 1953; whereupon Council unanimously authorized City Manager Hirst

to execute on behalf of the City an appropriate revision of said contract.

Council was adjourned.

x*\~ " .
W.
