<br />3: <br /> <br />TJESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 24, 1964 <br /> <br />..~ <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held Tuesday, November <br /> <br />24, 1964, beginning at 7:30 P.M., in the Council Chamber, City Hall, with all <br />members being present, viz., Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick, <br />M.D.; Harry L. Boaz; Thomas J. Burch; and E. E. Stone. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held November 10, 1964. <br /> <br />In connection with a petition referred by Council under date of December 10, <br /> <br />1963, to the Planning COmmi'3sion, submitted by Dr. Bate C. Toms, Jr., and <br /> <br />Dr. S. W. Adams, and requesting the rezoning for uprofessional~ usage that <br /> <br />property immediately north of, and adjacent to, Martinsville General Hospital <br /> <br />property, the Planning Commission reported that at one time ilthat the public <br /> <br />interest would best be served if this property were acquired by Martinsville <br /> <br />General Hospital for expansion purposesH. The Commission reported further <br /> <br />that negotiations between the hospital and the present owners were entered <br /> <br />into but were discontinued approximately three months ago and that the Board <br /> <br />of Trustees of the hospital has withdrawn all offers previously made. The <br /> <br />Commission reported, too, that it held a public hearing on November 17, 1964, <br /> <br />towards rezoning this property and that two property owners were represented <br /> <br />as being opposed to the proposed rezoning. Immediately following the public <br /> <br />hearing, the Commission went on record--as confirmed by its report and letter <br /> <br /> <br />of November 24, 1964--as unanimously recommending to the Council that the <br /> <br /> <br />property be rezoned to 1"P-1 Professional!.!. Council unanimously accepted the <br /> <br /> <br />Commission's recommendation subject to a public hearing--to be duly advertised-- <br /> <br /> <br />to be conducted by the Council at its regular meeting to be held December 22, <br /> <br />1964. <br />
